I wanted to send an email asking all of my readers or anyone at all reading this for help...
As you may know, my 15-inch MacBook Pro was stolen out of my checked bag on an American Airlines flight from Louisville (SDF) > Miami (MIA) > São Paulo (GRU) as well as my jewelry box containing 90% of my jewelry (although it is all replaceable). I am not sure which city this theft occurred in or if it was by the TSA, American Airlines or Customs. The bag was inspected by the TSA in Louisville, KY, although they say that they have video of this inspection and that the computer was clearly seen put back into my bag. It was stolen out of a large, soft, 50lb, neon green suitcase.
I'm asking for your help to keep an eye out for this computer, if anyone may happen to run into it on any sites such as Craigslist, or if the person who stole it may be reading this right now. No questions will be asked upon return. I promise.

I have tons of un-published photos, as well as other very important information on this laptop, so losing all of that is a huge setback for me, my blog, and for all of my loyal readers...

You should go to an Apple store and maybe they can locate it for you? I'm sure there has to be someway to track down a laptop if you can track an iPhone.

Hello Aimee! I´m so sorry... can't imagine this happening to me! There is an app Find Iphone/Ipad - see with Apple if there is any app for macbooks! They must help you somehow. I will cheer for that!

I hope that you can sort this out asap and that somebody will contact you about this matter. It's a very personal thing to loose a private laptop and it's very disturbing.

i'm so sorry this happened to you, and i know exactly how it feels. last summer i had my camera stolen, and since my livelihood is my online business which CANNOT function without a camera, i was so mad and upset. BUT, since you have the serial number, if i were you, i would start calling pawn shops in those areas. the police told me that was the best idea, since pawn shops check serial numbers against those of items reported stolen. good luck!

How infuriating! I have the same computer and just bought MacKeeper, which is an amazing piece of software that does MANY things, but one thing it does is track your computer if its stolen. It records IP addresses/locations whenever it connects to the internet and takes pics of whoever is using it without their knowledge, all of which you can check on their website from any other computer. I would highly recommend anyone with a Mac look into it.

The other day one of my friends was saying that MAC have a program or something like that, where you can see where is your computer. Maybe you can talk with the company and see if they can find it.

So sorry to hear! I never put my costume or good jewerly in a checked bag! EVER because you can not trust anyone. I always take it with me on the plane with my electronics too. ALWAYS bring it with your carry on! I hope you get your stuff back!
So sorry to hear that! However you should NEVER EVER check electronics.. specially when going to South America. I'm from South America and they always open bags that have electronics inside!

Wow I'm so sorry to hear that- you really should look into holding someone (TSA, the airports, etc) responsible for the stolen laptop (though I'm sure you already have). I'm also sorry to hear about all the unpublished material. Good luck!

I'm sorry here this.. but I heard of this before, a famous Spanish conductor lost his laptop going to brazil as well. And he did the same thing your doing but on tv. I don't think he was able to get it back, but I hope you do.
I'm traveling to the carribean next month and I'm so afraid to put my precious stuff in the luggage, specially the expensive dress I bought for a wedding. My father travel resently and they stole his perfumes and your situation scary me more:(

I worked for an airline in the baggage claim department for years. It's been years ago, but sadly the news isn't very good. If your entire bag had gone missing they would reimburse you up to a certain amount of money for it. Since you got your bag but there were things missing (unless the bag was damaged or forced entry can be proved) I'm afraid they usually won't cover this kind of thing. Mostly because there are jerks out there who would just say things were missing that were never there in the first place adn they ruin it for the honest people. Now, American airlines has had some drama in the baggage dept. in Miami. Years ago there were actual employees transporting drugs through luggage in the cargo bins. There were several arrests and a full on drug bust. Anyways, I hope you do find it or get reimbursed since they DO have video of it being in there at some point.
Oh my goodness! I'd be furious! I take it you didn't have "Find my Mac" activated on icloud? I would never expect things to be stolen out of a checked bag. I am going to choose what I pack very carefully in the future. I hope you eventually find it!

my bf works at the apple store in pasadena and he said to file a police report (you may have done this with the airline already) and that if the person brings the computer in for service etc. the apple store will know it has been stolen. Good luck and hope this gets resolved really soon.

I'm sorry for what happened to you and I wish 8 could help, but actually I'm writing to you cause I've had problems with AA too 3 days ago and wanted to know where did you complain and if they were helpful at all. I was supposed to arrive in Barcelona on the 12th but got there on the 13th, and also my bag was inspected too and one of the presents I was bringing to a friend was broken (with one of the pieces missing, which makes me think it was someone who did it). I never thought it would be possible to steal from a checked bag, but then again when you think about it, it could have happened on the way to the plane, or even when loading the bags onto the aircaft.
i always bring my laptop and anything valuable in my hand-luggage, that way I can check if anything gets stolen during the customs (since this sometimes also happens).
A tip for next time is to install a tracking software so that you can find the laptop if it gets stolen, only costs 20 dollars or so.
Do you have it backed up on iCloud?
If you have the ethernet id...can you find out if someone logs online with it? either way, if american airlines says they have footage documenting it and still didn't get it back to you, they ought to be liable to reimburse you for it.
My heart hurts for you!! When my parents immigrated to the states, all of my mom's jewelry was stolen too... so sad. I really hope you find the laptop.

So sorry to hear that this happened to you!! I lost one of my hard drives a year ago with years and years of photos and files, it still kills me to this day that I've lost them forever...I really hope you can recover your things!!!

Download the app Find iPhone and once you sign in with your Apple ID it'll tell you where other devices with that log in are in the world! On mine I can see where my macbook is at all times.
